We’re now halfway through May and with the possibility of some British sun on our hands, it’s time to take a look at what’s out there for the upcoming nice weather/summer season (Fingers crossed anyway)!
It’s always a nice feeling when we pack our winter knits and warm outer coats away for another year. The prospect of heading out of the house wearing just a cool tee or cotton shirt is one that appeals to most of us at the first sign of sun!
So, what do we think is hot for summer 2013? Let’s break it down. We’ve got daywear and eveningwear – yet there’s one thing that if matched right can suit either. You’ve guessed it! The cornerstone of any man’s summer wardrobe… The short!
This year it’s all about the tailoring. Fitted chino shorts are the way to go. Pastel and bright coloured shades in yellow, blue and pink are firm favorites with us. Nicely fitted and rolled up a little, tailored shorts can be dressed up or down to suit almost any summer situation from beach to smart casual evenings out.
Take the chino shorts from Replay. Throw these on with a striped crew tee and flip-flops and you’re ready to hit the beach. As the evening draws in you can swap out the flip-flops and tee for a pair of Grenson loafers and mix it up with a fitted shirt from Scotch and Soda. You’re now ready for the bar!
The second summer staple for the modern man’s wardrobe is of course, the chino itself. There are many styles out there but we like them coloured and tailored. Like the short, the chino can be dressed up or down, however its full-length profile is also available for the more formal occasion. Perfect rolled up with a loafer or deck shoe the chino offers a variety of looks. A smart casual denim shirt from Edwin or Lee 101 works in most situations. From an afternoon in the beer garden leading through the bars and clubs when the lights go down.
For the more formal occasion combine the chino with a light cotton shirt and Scotch and Soda blazer. A perfect combo for summer weddings and christenings. Mix and match with a bright bow tie for that geek chic look, or go tweed jacket and tie for the classic English gent.
The third thing for part one is denim. We all know skinny is in at the moment and this definately follows through into summer. Go for light or stone wash jeans with a nice turn up to perfectly compliment those flip-flops, loafers or deck shoes!
Don’t forget to check out part two next week where we will be looking closer into our apparel and summer outerwear!
